Changes to the Immigration New Zealand Act Nov 2010

Happy Spring to all!

I just love the new season, I always think of spring as new life…….the blossoms, stone fruit, warmer days and more sun.

As we approach summer all of us in the Immigration Industry are faced with the biggest “overhaul” of Immigration Act.

“In April 2006 the Government announced the most comprehensive review of immigration legislation in 20 years.

The implementation of the new Immigration Act will help deliver the migrants we need and the Act was a major focus in 2009/2010 and will be again in 2010/2011 as we move towards a 28 November general commencement date. The majority of the provisions will come into effect on 29 November 2010. Until then the provisions of the Immigration Act 1987 apply.

The Immigration Department will facilitate training workshops for all licensed Immigration Advisors. Immigration Department Case Officers and Licensed Advisors will receive the same training to ensure consistency”.

While we are getting our heads around the new Immigration Act we are faced with ongoing challenges in the industry. The Immigration process for all categories has become more intense over the last two years and our experience is that Immigration New Zealand have a “lean view” when it comes to especially issuing work permits. This is clearly the result of the global recession. This action leads to employers having difficulty in recruiting skilled workers and we will be facing another huge skill shortage in 2011.

This is of course good news for people thinking of making New Zealand their new home.
As we continue to welcome new migrants to New Zealand our aim is to provide quality service at an affordable price that is within reach of most people.
